INFORMATION ABOUT GRANT CHANNEL

 

Guidance for the vessel to safe navigation, manoeuvring at grant channel:

Gulf of Khambhat is to be entered through grant channel as recommended by British admiralty publication -West coast of India (N.P. 38).

 

Panamax vessel with drafts upto 13.80 meters have transited grant channel as follows.

Vessel to pass Pipavav 3 hours before high water.

 

Reduce speed to D.S. ahead on passing Pipavav to reduce squat.

Change over to high suction.

 

Remain in the centre of the channel right throughout transiting grant channel.

Continue like this till passing Gopinath point.

 

On passing Gopinath point increase to full speed and approach Dahej.

OTHER RESTRICTIONS

Mooring: Due to tidal range the jetty height is 6.6 meters at CD. Mooring ropes should have 3 meters long and 1inch line attached to the eye. Vessel is required to pass heaving line. Only single mooring line to be sent at a time.

Bollard: There are 65 bollards, bollard No. 01 to 39 under Berth No.GP 1, GP 2 & GP 3 and bollard no. 41 to 65 under Berth No. GP 4. The capacity of One Bollard is 100/200 Tons Pull. Length between two bollards is 18.2 Meters.

 

GANGWAY: Due to fender length, shipside to jetty face distance is 2.5 meters. Hence from gangway lower platform to jetty a suitable length (about 5 meter), horizontally placed, bridge piece is required. The port has facility of Gangway that can be availed by request of Master/Agent or suitably fit by Pilot by paying charges as per port tariff.
