BY SHIP OR SHORE CRANES
Normally the ship's gear is always used for carrying out Loading /discharging operation. It is always advisable to have vessel with cranes/gears of 25/30 MT safe working load (SWL) if cargo must be loaded or discharged with the help of ship's cranes otherwise better option is crane berth.
Shippers, receivers and stevedores prefer CRANE BERTH where they are getting minimum two shore cranes from port with Safe Working Load (SWL) of 10 X 2 tons & 16 X 3 Tons situated at different berths to achieve better load/discharge output.
Average load/discharge rate achieved with SHIPS cranes at this port is about 4000 to 7000 MT up to 10000 MT or sometimes even more depends on loading/discharging arrangements made by the stevedores and their handling agents and also depend on various factors like cargo type, clearance of the cargo from the wharf, proper arrangements of storage etc. 5 to 12 CBM grabs are normally used to achieve this load/discharge rate.
Port release labour gangs in accordance with the arrangements made by the shippers or receivers for loading/discharging operation. Normally Port allowed 4/5 gangs, which depends on No. of hooks available for cargo operation and also subject to gear conditions.
LOADING / DISCHARGING PROCESS.
Conventional discharge rate achievable for this cargo is around 2000 Metric tons per day basis 4 hooks subject to equipments provided by the receivers / shippers.
BAGGED SUGAR/OTHER BAGGED CARGOES
BAGGED CARGOES discharge rate about 2500 - 3000 Metric tons per day BASIS 4 HOOKS. Discharge rate for jumbo bags 200 to 250 mts to per hook/ per day, depend upon the cargo feeding under the hook and will be subject to well equipped ships gear and favorable weather conditions.
