WEATHER CONDITIONS

An all-weather port with tropical and dry climate conditions. Temperature 25o C to 44o C during summer and 10o C to 25o C during winter.

Monsoon 15 May to 14 August. Scanty rainfall thereby enabling round the year operations. A sheltered harbour so no adverse wave effect.

 

Non cyclonic maximum winds (30-40kmph) occur during May-August. Wind speeds are relatively less during North East Monsoon.

Wind speeds up to 180 KMPH have been observed during cyclonic storms.

5 berths are allotted to Priority groups 2 berth for higher productivity, 24 hours 13500 mt and above 7000/5500 MT above priority.

Steel carrying vessel will be allotted one berth and general export and Import 5 berths.

BERTH INFORMATION & RESTRICTIONS

Total 16 dry cargo berths are available with quay length of 2532 metres. Out of which is 1987 metres straight line and 545 metres at an angle of 18o. For stream handling there are one deep draft mooring that is temporarily withdrawn and also one salt mooring that also temporarily withdrawn other three cargo moorings are in the inner harbour area.

Cargo operation: Round the clock 24x7. Except few NATIONAL HOLIDAYS port is operational for entire year.

OTHER RESTRICTIONS

The permissible draft of ships and tankers changes every quarterly.

The maximum permissible LOA for the port is 240 metres, the vessel up to 260 meters can be brought at Kandla Creek under special condition. Container vessel up to 330 meters can be handled with a draft of 13.50 meters during daylight hours & 13.00 meters during night, subject to high water height being more than 6.00 meters at KICT Container Terminal.

Permissible draft for ships and tankers exceeding 225.50 meters (740 ft) will have a minimum under keel clearance of 1.2 meters (4 feet). 

Vessels more than 225.50 meters in length must be brought directly alongside berth and shall not be allowed at anchorage. 

Berthing of vessels beyond 225.50 meters in length shall be done between panels 51 to 84 only. 

 

Only one vessel exceeding 225.50 meters in length shall be handled at a time. 

Pilotage is restricted to vessels with length 230 meters (754.6 feet) during night hours.

 

Ships and tankers having manoeuvring speed of less than 9 knots through water will not be moved IN & OUT of Kandla port during night hours. However, this condition is not applicable to TUG/Barges.

Berthing and Un-berthing of the vessels and tankers to buoy moorings will be restricted to day light only.

Steel floating dry dock - The existing steel floating dry dock caters to the need of the Port Crafts as well as outside organisations and having a capacity to accommodate all vessels of following parameters: LOA maximum up to 100 metres; Breadth maximum up to 17 metres; Draft maximum up to 4.5 metres; Lift displacement maximum up to 2500 tonnes.
